You'd think it would be fun being the right-hand man of a country's leader, with nice perks to your job like attending parties & sumptuous banquets. Well not always, as James McAvoy's character finds out in this excellent drama. He plays Nicholas Garrigan, a young Scottish doctor who goes to Uganda to help the country's sick, but ends up becoming personal physician & close adviser to dictator Idi Amin. Things start off well enough, but Nicholas' attitude to his new boss takes a dramatic turn when he discovers the extent of his murderous ways & realizes he must escape at all cost. This film is worth a watch just for the stunning Oscar-winning turn from Forest Whitaker as evil '70s tyrant Amin.
Here u will find Gillian Anderson [Agent Scally, The X Files] in a different role.
I liked the film because it represented a true story, part of a history in a very attractive way; which is quite difficult to do. It presented the African culture very nicely. I liked the character Nicholas as well. That is so LIVE!
It portraid the character Amin, so realistically; it seems that it is not past - present. That will remind you a lot of characters around you - - still. They r every where, every time.
