Like previous years, panjabi is men's first choice for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr and Durga Puja festivals.

While visiting different city markets, this correspondent found that this year the price of panjabi is much higher than that of the last year. Shopkeepers of these opined that due to increase of price of threads and production cost, price of panjabi has increased this year.

Buyers could get panjabi from various shops at Elephant Road and Science Laboratory, Eastern Plaza Shopping Complex, Pir Yemeni Market, Mauchak Market, Basundhara City Complex, Shah Ali Market, Prince Plaza, Gazi Bhaban, Rapa Plaza, Bangabazar, Gawsia Market and different fashion houses including Mantra, Aarong, Nipun Crafts, Kay Krafts, Anjan's, OG, Anya Mela, Nabarupa, Karushaily, Rang, Banglar Mela, Prabartana, Deshal, Grameen Check, Grameen Samogri, Trendz, Tara Marka, Nikhut, Kazi Craft, Abartan, Zahid Craft, Nari Mela and others. Khalid Mahmud Khan, fashion designer of Kay Kraft, said, "Shirt-panjabi, a trendy fashion for this year Eid, is the first choice for men. Different colourful designs on panjabi and shirt-panjabi is at the peak of the choice of young generation. They also choose fatua, casual and formal shirts."

While visiting Pir Yemeni Market at Gulistan, this correspondent found that the price of panjabi is slightly cheaper than in the other markets. There normal coton panjabi is selling between Tk 250 and Tk 450. Panjabi with handprint is selling from Tk 650 to Tk 2,000, fatua with embroidery is selling between Tk 280 and Tk 690.

Meanwhile, shops at Science Laboratory and Elephant Road, local and foreign coton panjabis are selling between Tk 300 and Tk 650, while panjabis with various designs are selling between Tk 700 and Tk 4,000.

At Mauchak Market, coton panjabi is selling within Tk 650, Andy panjabi is selling within Tk 1,200 and silk panjabi is selling between Tk 1,050 and Tk 3,650.

Like every year, for buying panjabis, everybody especially young men prefer on designs of various fashion houses.

Emdad Haque, fashion designer of Banglar Mela, said, "The first choice of this year Eid is complex dresses with different colours and designs. Young generation is giving priority to fusion of dresses. Males are interested to buy fatua, short shirt, casual shirt and short panjabi. While choosing clothes, they are liking soft khadi and Andy and different types of coton."

Meanwhile, Jamal, a student of Dhaka University, said that he always likes to buy panjabi from different fashion houses for himself and his brothers. Like previous year, he would buy panjabi for himself and his younger brother from Grameen Samogri this year.

Among various fashion houses, Andy coton panjabi, khadi, coton, silk and katan, tuton and Guzrati silk are found in Banglar Mela ranging between Tk 650 and Tk 2,000. At Nipun, panjabi is selling between Tk 300 and Tk 4,500, at Gentle Park, Andy coton, khadi and silk panjabis are selling between Tk 600 and Tk 5,000, at Anjan's, it is selling between Tk 425 and Tk 2,095, at Karushaily, it ranges between Tk 450 and Tk 2,5000, Anya Mela, it is selling between Tk 650 and Tk 3,050, at Nabarupa, 100 types of well-designed panjabis are selling between Tk 490 and Tk 9,000.

Besides, at OG, panjabi is selling between Tk 450 and Tk 4,500, at Kay Kraft, it ranges between Tk 650 and Tk 4,000 and at Trendz, panjabi is selling between Tk 450 and Tk 3,050.

At Deshal, fatua is selling between Tk 280 and Tk 520 and short panjabi is selling between Tk 350 and Tk 450, at Nipun Crafts Ltd, panjabi is selling between Tk 450 and Tk 2,500, fatua is selling between Tk 350 and Tk 800 and shirt is selling between Tk 300 and Tk 600.
