Passengers complain of harassment by railway staff at ticket counters
Hundreds of complaints have been submited by passengers immediately after opening up a complaint center by Rapid Action Batalion (RAB) at the city's Kamlapur Railway Station.
In their complaints the passengers have alleged that they were forced to pay extra amounts of money for buying tickets at Kamalapur Railway Station.
Many people complained that the railway staff at the counters were selling tickets through Ansars illegally. Selling of the advanced tickets of railway began yesterday at Kamalapur Railway Station. A monitoring cell of RAB-3 is working to stop harassment of passengers. A complaint center has also been opened there. On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, advanced tickets of 19 inter-city and 12 mail trains are being sold everyday. The selling of the advanced tickets will continue till October 8. An individual is not given more than five tickets to check blackmarketing. Advanced tickets are being sold from 8:00am to 4:00pm everyday. The advanced tickets of October 9 were sold yesterday. In order to procure tickets, hundreds of passengers assembled at the Kamalapur Railway Station after Wednesday midnight Many people rushed to the Kamalapur Railway Station to buy tickets not only from Dhaka, but also from Narayanganj and Gazipur. But, most of them could not buy tickets without going through harassment and difficulties.
Majority of the people complained against the Bangladesh Railway officials working at the counters. They complained that the counter officials had refused to provide tickets on various grounds.
However, the Bangladesh Railway officials said they would try their best to ensure safe journeys of passengers before and after the Eid-ul-Fitr.
They said special measures have been taken to check black-marketing of tickets. Besides, additional bogies would be added to the Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur, Jamalpur bound trains.
