Tarique arrested, Sudha Sadan searched
Tarique Rahman is arrested. Khaleda Zia's son leads an impressive list of arrestees in raids starting late Wednesday night through early Thursday morning. Senior Correspondent Sumon Mahmood says Tarique was arrested early Thursday from his mother's cantonment home and taken away by joint forces. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, a BNP standing committee member, was picked up from his Gulshan home. Chittagong mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury was taken away from his home in the city. One of the early raids was on the daily Janakantha office: Atiqullah Khan Masud was led away by the joint forces. Jamaat-e-Islami leader and former Islami Chhatra Shibir president Syed Abdullah Muhammad Tahir was arrested from Shyamoli in the capital. The forces went to the Sudha Sadan and left the vicinity of the Dhanmondi home of Sheikh Hasina after 40 minutes. A bdnews24.com correspondent at the scene said the officers went inside and spent a few minutes. "I know they came," Hasina, reached by phone, told bdnews24.com at 12.16am. Sudha Sadan sources said they were looking for Sheikh Helaluddin and A F M Bahauddin Nasim. The forces returned to Hasina's home at around 1.45am, our correspondent Sumon Mahbub reported from the spot. They spent one and half hours searching "each and every room" at the house. None was arrested. Channel One chairman and former BNP MP M A H Selim was arrested at around 3am at his Gulshan home. Joint forces raided the home of Jatiya Party leader Anwar Hossain Manju but failed to arrest him. Update 6 with Selim arrest and more on Manju
